Portfolio – Archive work This body of work includes abstracted figurative forms, vessel forms, and concept-based sculptures that investigate texture, sensuality, and human relationship. It reflects Bonnie Kemske’s background training in modern dance, life drawing, and Chanoyu (Japanese tea ceremony). The work is decidedly tactile, built using various techniques, textured using tools created for each piece, and low-fired to retain the warm quality of the clay. The pieces were finished in oxides, stains, biscuit slips, and dry glazes. At times the surfaces were lightly ground or sanded, the tactile quality of the piece being as important as its appearance. In these works one senses a quiet sensuality and calmness, while retaining a feeling of movement within the stillness of the forms.
